Cyberlandia Infrastructure
High-Availability Infrastructure for Cyberlandia
I architected and deployed a high-availability WordPress infrastructure on AWS for Cyberlandia. The goal was to ensure scalability, resilience, and secure SSL management using AWS Certificate Manager (ACM).
Key Deliverables:
- Auto Scaling Group (ASG): Provisioned EC2 instances with shared EFS for persistent storage.
- Managed RDS & EFS: Migrated the WordPress database to Amazon RDS and configured an EFS file system to handle file uploads across multiple instances.
- Application Load Balancer & SSL: Enabled secure HTTPS with ACM certificates, leveraging subdomain delegation for auto-renewal.
- Testing & Validation: Completed end-to-end tests—including load testing (50–200 users), failover simulations, and WP admin/dashboard verification.
- DNS Migration: Shifted DNS to Amazon Route 53 with subdomain delegation for easier management and seamless SSL renewals.
Results:
- Achieved 99.99% uptime potential thanks to multi-instance, auto-scaled WordPress and failover readiness.
- Ensured security and reliability with thoroughly tested backups, RDS snapshots, and EFS persistence.
- Streamlined management of SSL certificates with auto-renewal in ACM, reducing maintenance overhead.
BoxFit Demo
This project for BoxFit Glasgow Muay Thai Gym began as a request to fix their existing site, which had been broken and only displayed a black screen. As I transitioned into a WordPress design business, I proposed a complete rebuild from scratch, hosted on my own AWS platform for improved reliability, performance, and control over updates.
To maintain BoxFit’s brand identity, I utilized the Wayback Machine to review their old site and retrieve assets like logos, which I combined with fresh, dynamic images from the gym’s social media profiles. I incorporated authentic client reviews, adding depth and community trust to the site content. For visual appeal, I implemented custom hover elements, a welcoming animation, and a clean, responsive design that works beautifully on all devices.
Understanding the gym’s need for ongoing updates, I implemented Pods and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), allowing them to easily manage content such as testimonials and highlight featured fighters. This site is a versatile, user-friendly platform that reflects the energy and passion of BoxFit Glasgow while empowering the gym team to manage it independently after launch.
Key Features:
- Complete Custom WordPress Theme with Welcome Animation and Hover Effects
- Responsive, Mobile-First Design for Optimal User Experience on All Devices
- Integrated Social Media Content and Authentic Client Reviews
- Custom Post Types with Pods and ACF for Effortless Management of Testimonials and Featured Fighters
- Performance Optimized and Hosted on AWS for Reliability
- Focus on Future Use: Easily Editable by the Client Post-Launch
Boudoir Demo
This project was completed as a favour for a friend. His parents run a ladies lingerie and nightwear store in Partick, Glasgow, and they were keen to try their hand at an online store to boost business. With no pre-existing logo or strong brand identity, I saw an opportunity both to help them step into ecommerce and to experiment with WordPress’s ecommerce capabilities.
I designed a simple yet effective logo and selected a cohesive colour palette that complemented the storefront typography, ensuring the design remained inviting and on-brand. Customer reviews, a key strength of their business, were integrated prominently to build trust and credibility. The site features an intuitive, responsive design that makes it easy for the business to update products and promotions.
This project not only helped the family business establish an online presence but also served as an experimental showcase for ecommerce on WordPress, highlighting how even small ventures can leverage digital tools to expand their market reach.
Key Features:
- WordPress Ecommerce Integration with WooCommerce
- Custom Simple Logo and Cohesive Colour Palette
- User-Friendly Online Storefront Design
- Prominent Integration of Genuine Customer Reviews
- Responsive, Mobile-Optimized Layout
- Experimental Project Highlighting Ecommerce Capabilities
